Our Mission

The mission of Awayes Family Dental, Craniofacial, and Sleep Disorders Practice is:

Law of To’s:

  • To take suffering, pain, insecurity and fear and convert it into relief, restoration of health, confidence and happiness.
  • To try to see those who might not be seen by anyone else and to be there for them when they need us.
  • To show that everyone is beautiful; it’s just a matter of restoring or shifting it around to achieve a beautiful result.
  • To allow those who labor to take the needed breath of life to breath a little easier and find peaceful, restful, and restoring sleep.
  • To show a team that life is not ordinary; that dull and uninteresting has no place here; that what some may refer to simply as a job is in fact a calling that positively affects the lives of others in our community far beyond concept of what may merely be referred to as just another business.
  • To have people walk in as strangers, but walk out as friends who will be proud of this new relationship.

Our Office was opened in September of 1999. It was originally one office with a teal door out front, some of you may remember it as Dr. Awayes’ Office. Although, we aren’t talking about the dentist. It originally housed the office of Dr. Abdelgaffar Awayes, the urologist. In 1998, additions began to add Dr. Awayes’ son’s, Adly Awayes, dentist office and many other offices. Including the MRI and Cardiovascular Units across the lot and the OB/GYN next door.

PRACTICE HISTORY

Dr. Adly Awayes was born in Catskill New York to Dr. Abdelgaffar and Maha Awayes (affectionately referred to as Baba and Yum-ma). He moved to Milford, Delaware at age 4 where he grew up and attended the schools of the Milford School District; graduating high school in the late 1980s.

Starting at the University of Delaware, he later transferred to Temple University so he could roommate with his sister who was attending dental school in Philadelphia. Dr. Awayes attended Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry followed by a Residency at the University of Connecticut School of Dentistry and a Fellowship at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven Connecticut.

Upon returning to Delaware, Dr. Awayes worked for the State of Delaware providing dentistry for the Department of Corrections, gaining much-needed experience especially in emergency dentistry so he could better serve his patient’s needs. When he opened up his private practice a year and a half later, September of 1999, Dr. Awayes began providing general dentistry and pediatric dentistry as well as a much-needed emergency dental service to southern Delaware.

In 2004, the first step to a digital office came about with the acquisition of a CEREC unit which allowed in-office porcelain restoration, designing, and milling. In 2006, digital x-rays were introduced followed by complete digital record keeping in early 2009.

In 2006, Orthodontics and pediatric interceptive orthopedics were introduced followed by Invisalign orthodontic treatment. Parallel to orthodontic treatment in the office was the development of a Sleep disorder practice and the initial start to jaw/headache treatment in the practice.

In 2007, Dr. Awayes received his fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry for active pursuit of continuing education well beyond the required state licensing laws and is slated to advance to Master of the Academy of General Dentistry in 2017.

In the summer of 2012, Dr. Awayes received his fellowship in the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain and updated the equipment and training protocols. This allowed for treating more advanced head and neck pain, temporomandibular pain and disorders, and migraine headaches related to the muscles associated with chewing and jaw function.

The office’s span of treatment includes Craniofacial Disorders, Sleep Disorders, Orthodontics, Cosmetic, as well as general restorative and pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Awayes served on the Delaware Technical College hygiene schools advisory Board from 2006 to current and served as president of the Kent/Sussex Dental Society from 2010 to 2012.

In 2016 Dr. Awayes also became a Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Awayes’s interests and hobbies include plastic model construction of ships and aircraft from World War I and World War II as well as exploring different cities and collecting university banners from their bookstores, marking the territories he’s visited.

Dr. Awayes is proud to have established his office here in his hometown of Milford, Delaware where he serves his patients and the community by providing much-needed quality dentistry.
